He put his life on the line for civil rights. Do you know his name?

Summary

Walter F. White, a pivotal yet overlooked civil rights leader, worked tirelessly to combat racial injustice in the early 20th century through his leadership at the NAACP. A descendant of both enslaved Black people and white plantation owners who could "pass" as white, White courageously investigated racial terror, lobbied for anti-lynching laws, and worked with prominent leaders to challenge systemic racism. His most significant legacy includes hiring Thurgood Marshall and developing the legal strategy that ultimately led to the landmark Brown vs Board of Education decision, fundamentally transforming racial equality in America. Despite his extraordinary contributions to the Civil Rights movement, White remains largely unknown in contemporary historical narratives.
